  1. Main Preparatory Reading 1 item
At a minimum, we would like you to prepare for your degree programme in LSE Philosophy by reading one book: 'The Philosopher's Toolkit', by Julian Baggini and Peter S. Fosl. All the other books below are optional; you are free to peruse them at your leisure to get an idea for the kinds of topics that you will have the opportunity to cover. But please do read 'The Philosopher's Toolkit'. It is available in paperback or as an ebook for under £12 on Amazon, and is some of the best preparation you can do.
  2. Studying public policy issues from a philosophical angle requires a good understanding of political philosophy. Students in our programme come from different backgrounds. If you are unfamiliar with contemporary analytic political philosophy, you might find it helpful to read some of the following books before term starts.

  3. An Introduction to Political Philosophy - Jonathan Wolff 2006

    Book

  4. What Does it all Mean? A Very Short Introduction to Philosophy - Thomas Nagel 1987

    Book

  5. Democracy - Ross Harrison 1993
